  • Heath & Safety Law (HASWA) Responsibilities of employer and employee.

  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).

  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER).

  • Types of lift trucks and their component parts.

  • Principals of counterbalance.

  • Rated capacity plates, de-rating of the lift truck including the use of attachments.

  • Lift truck stability and instability.  

  • Operator safety code (the highway code for forklifts).

  • Pre-shift inspection of the lift truck recording and reporting of defects.

  • Re-fuelling, battery charging and battery maintenance.

  • Basic driving and steering open area.

  • Driving and reversing through a chicane.

  • Left and right 90° turns open and confined space.

  • Introduction to the hydraulics.

  • Load assessment and load handling.

  • Stacking techniques low, medium and high levels.

  • Loading/unloading of Vehicles.
